Dismantling the Golden Cage: A Journey from Implanted Identity to Uncharted Horizons

Hey there, fellow seekers of adventure, change, and seekers of yourself!

Welcome to the first chapter of my journey - a journey that has taken me from the daily routine in an international corporation, where I sought status, wealth and an implanted identity, to exploring uncharted territories and finding my own identity.

I look forward to sharing my story with you. A story that is all about embracing change and discovering the incredible opportunities that life has to offer. From traveling to amazing and exotic places around the world to exploring unknown but equally amazing places deep within your own mind.

It's going to be pretty honest and uncomfortable for me 😅 but I hope to inspire others with it.

So here we go. Growing up in diverse countries like Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, and finally putting down roots in Germany, I've always believed that life should be about the journey itself, not just a race to achieving milestones. However living in Germany in a safe home with peers all living the "normal" life, I got sidetracked during my business engineering bachelor's and started to aim for that golden cage, that most of us blindly aspire to.

During a year of backpacking around the world, my hidden part was reawakened. It wasn't one single standout moment - it was the simple encounters with people from different cultures and different walks of life, the stories we shared, and the intense times we spent together as we traveled on together. These moments taught me that connections don't always take years to develop; sometimes it's about shared experiences that stand the test of time, and most importantly, that we are all the same, no matter how different we are.

After my return to Germany, it did get me again, that ominous golden cage. But I wasn't aware of it. It got me again mainly because of the search for safety. I found myself in a 9-to-7 job, following the path that society often refers to as "success". I was responsible for certifying vehicles for our largest market at a major German car manufacturer - it was important to me because I was good at my job and it was challenging. It was a role that gave me valuable insight into the entire product lifecycle, from model strategy to engineering, production, logistics, marketing and sales. I thrived in it, learned from unforeseen events and made important contacts. For a long time, I had the feeling that I was on the right track.

But a simple coffee break conversation turned my world upside down again.

Colleagues celebrated the rapid implementation of the conventional checklist of an employee's life - a non-terminable employment contract, a marriage proposal, a mortgage, a dog. The scales fell from my eyes.

The golden cage!

I couldn't get the conversation out of my head and it made me question whether this was the path I really wanted to take. An increasing overtime account and decreasing motivation, due to the inertia that is common in most big (German) corporations were you can't get fired, gave me the final push.

But it took over a year before I plucked up the courage and took the leap into the unknown. I took a break from my job and began an MBA-program with a focus on digitalization and sustainability to combine my passion for technology with a commitment to a greener world. At the same time, I wanted to use the time to finally really take care of one of my business ideas.

So it finally started!

If you want to know what ups and downs I had to go through to say here now:

"I'm actually quite the scientifically minded type and all that, but there's still something that can't be explained with rational reason."

Small disclaimer: Corona deniers, flatearthers, reptile people and whatever other funny conspiracies there are, you are not meant 😉.

Bye

Your Sebastian
